26-Jul 1530 Salcombe Regis Mirror dingy suffered outboard engine failure 1 mile off Salcombe Regis,2 persons onboard tried to paddle ashore but were being blown further out to sea, vessel was towed back to Sidmouth by lifeboat, NO Lifejackets, NO flares, NO radio and NO decent oars. Safety advice given
24-Jul 1658 Jacobs ladder Swimmer pulled out of the sea unconcious and not breathing 1/2 mile West of Jacobs ladder, paramedics, air ambulance and police also on route, CPR was attempted but unfortunately the casualty did not respond and was sadly declared deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with the family.
05-Jul 2008 Sidmouth Boat broken down 1 mile South of Sidmouth 2 persons aboard,they were unable to get back to shore, no lifejackets, no flares, no radio, Sdimouth lifeboat towed boat ashore, Safety advice given.
03-Jul 1217 Sidmouth Vessel broken down towed back to Teignmouth by Sidmouth Lifeboat
24-June 2157 River Axe Canoeist capsized and initially swept out to sea, casualty made the shore safely uninjured, Canoeist had safety equipment and was experienced on the river.
23-June 1948 Alma Bridge Sidmouth Dog fallen into river, the dog managed to get itself to the river bank safely after a short while.
19-June 2241 Beer Head Flare sighting, investigation found this was a Chinese lantern, several more were sighted and believed to come from Branscombe beach just West of Castle rock. note- anybody using Chinese lanterns near the coast should advise the local H M Coastguard station, please read the section on Chinese lanterns accessable form our home page.
16-June 1100 RRS Attend RRS to assist engineers
13-June 1535 Dunscombe Walkers reported a Sheep over the cliff at Dunscombe, The animal was not in difficulty and was left grazing on the cliff top.
11-June 0801 Seaton Local fishing vessell taking on water, skipper forced to beach the vessel, the boat was pounded by the swell sustaining some damage. The skipper jumped into the sea to get ashore,vessel was secured on the beach in an ebbing tide. Large amount of debris along the shoreline and later in the morning reports of pollution (diesel) leaking from the vessel.
08-June 1921 Seaton Report of 2 boats high and dry on the river bank with 2 persons stranded, false alarm with good intent, the 2 persons were canoeists and were not in trouble.
08-June 1805 Beer Suspected fire in adjoining property to Station, DFRS called to Station, Fire had burnt out, small amount of damage to roof
30-May 1600 Orcombe point Assist Exmouth Coastguard with the recovery of 2 children stuck on the cliff, the Coastguard helicopter was required to lift them off, as Cliff edge was inaccesable above the childrens location. Both casualties were recovered uninjured.
28-May 1116 Dunscombe Cliffs a 74 year old female collapsed after ascending the coastparth from Salcombe mouth, she recovered after a short while and it was assessed that no futher medical assistance was required,she was given a lift back to her vehicle.
28-May 0845 Dunscombe Cliffs A Dog that had been missing for 6 days was heard barking in the area of Dunscombe cliff, after cutting our way through thick bracken we managed to get to cliff adge above the dog and lowered a man down, a very lucky dog was recovered and reunited with her owner who took her off to the vet to be checked over.
16-May 1545 Jacobs Ladder Police request assistance after receiving a call from a male threatening to jump off the cliff, The team were about to start a search along the cliffs, when police investigations revealed this was a hoax call.
3-May 1915 Stafford Cross Police requested assistance with an Inland search for a missing female,Police helicopter, search dogs, Dartmoor rescue and members of the public also involved in search, the casualty was located safe and well 4 miles away from last known position walking along the main A35.
23-Apr 0931 RRS Power failure back up system running, power restored.
8-Apr 1924 Hooken Cliff A member of the public reported 2 persons jumping from the cliff, CG Helo, Police and CG team started a search to locate them, police officer located 2 persons on Branscombe beach who had base jumped off cliff top, confirmed both were ok and no other persons involved. If these people would only contact us first and tell us they are going to jump, it would save tax payers money. 12 Coastguards a Helicopter, 6 Police officers, Paramedics and a fire crew, who were co responding, were involved in the incident.
4-Apr 1950 High Peak Sidmouth Search and recovery of a male reported to be in a distress state, casualty was located 275 feet down the cliff at High Peak, Coastguard helicopter 106, Sidmouth lifeboat, Police and Exmouth Coastguard's were also involved. The Casualty was in a very inaccessible area of the coast, all the cliff rescue equipment had to be carried 500 feet up through a steep wooded area to get to the cliff edge. He was not visible from the cliff top and the lifeboat was used to illuminate the area and indicate the the exact position of the casualty to the cliff team above. After having to return its base to refuel the helo returned and winched the casualty off the cliff face, which involved some very difficult maneuvering by the pilot where the helicopter rotors were within feet of the cliff. The casualty who had no major injuries was transferred to a waiting ambulance
4-Apr 1256 River Axe Vessel aground on the bar at mouth of river Axe, Local fishing vessel towed the vessel off the bar.
4-Apr 1221 River Axe Canoeist capsized and being swept out to sea, CG helo and Sidmouth lifeboat also tasked, Local fisherman recovered the casualty and brought into the river, no medical assistance required
1-Apr 1029 RRS Channel to Channel problem, fault proved to line
13-Mar 1740 Sidmouth Person cut off by the tide, he managed to get back on his own, wet but safe
13-Mar 1335 Sidmouth Alma bridge Westcountry ambulance requested assistance with a 70 year old male who had fallen off the wall on the path above Alma bridge and could not move. person was secured and then recovered back to the path after paramedics confirmed there were no injuries.
24-Feb 1030 RRS Faulty power unit replaced by engineer
15-Feb 2146 RRS Power failure at Radio site, power eventually restored 0145 on 16th
01 Jan 0001 Peak Hill Devon and Cornwall police request a cliff team to recover a person located on the cliff 30 meters from the top of Peak hill, casualty was located after a search by the police for a missing person, casualty had become lodged in thick undergrowth, Rescue Helicopter winch man was unable to access the casualty due to the undergrowth, Cliff man was lowered to cut a path to the casualty and get access for the winch man. person was conscious but hypothermic, casualty was eventually winch into the aircraft and transferred to RD & E Hospital.( this incident started in 2009 and ended in 2010) Exmouth coastguard assisted
